PC was founded in 1880 by the Rev. William Plumer Jacobs in the historic city of Clinton in the foothills of South Carolina. The college offers a wide variety of undergraduate majors and has established three graduate programs in occupational therapy, physician assistant, and pharmacy. PC student-athletes — the Blue Hose — participate in 19 sports at the Division I level.

Presbyterian College student champions mural project for City of Clinton

Presbyterian College junior Barrett Moody of Traveler's Rest, S.C., recently organized a fundraiser in support of a mural project in Clinton, S.C. The "Mimosas for the Mural" event in late September raised enough funds for the project to move foward.

Highlander Battalion commissions new second lieutenants during Presbyterian College's 140th commencement

The Highlander Battalion commissioned three second lieutenants from the ROTC program at Presbyterian College on May 12. The former cadets, who graduated from PC on May 13, will begin serving in the U.S. Military this summer.

Presbyterian College students become educators during annual Teacher Induction Ceremony

Sixteen graduating education majors from Presbyterian College were offically welcoming into the teaching professions during the college's annual Teacher Induction Ceremony on May 12. The group recited the Oath For Graduating Educators after an inspirational address from Cinda Ginn, the Thornwell Charter School Teacher of the Year. During the ritual, the new teachers pledged to bring honor to the teaching profession, stated their dedication to the profession, and formally accepted their "obligation to improve the general condition of humanity, their responsibility to advance knowledge and cooperation, and their duty to promote the competence of their students."

Ainslie Lane named 'Best Delegate' at Southern Regional Model U.N. in Charlotte, N.C.

Presbyterian College senior Ainslie Lane of Bixby, Okla., was named "Best Delegate" at the Southern Regional Model United Nations in Charlotte, N.C., this spring. Lane was joined by fellow PC students Ryan Seubarran, Dakota Price, and Gabriella Brinez-Parsi as delegates for the United Arab Emirates.

Outstanding Senior Kennedy Wright addressed Class of '23 at PC commencement

Presbyterian College's Outstanding Senior, Kennedy Wright of Greenville, S.C., was a keynote speaker at the college's 140th commencement on May 13. Wright, who also served as student body president and presidnet of the Multicultural Student Union, was also named Outstanding Senior in Management and earned both a Senior Achievement Award and an Academic Excellence Award for her career at PC.

Aurelia Santoyo attends corporate diversity and inclusion forum in New York City

Presbyterian College sophomore Aurelia Santoyo a major diversity and inclusion forum hosted by Bank of America's Enterprise Diversity Talent Acquisition Team at the InterContinental New York Times Square in New York City this spring. The forum was also an opportunity for the company to recruit future employees from diverse cultural backgrounds. Students interviewed for the Summer 2024 Analyst Program for several divisions - including wealth management, sales and trading, and finance. Santoyo is the first PC student to be invited to the diversity and inclusion forum and was encouraged to apply by Vance Professor of Economics and Business Administration Dr. Suzie Smith '82 at the behest of PC alumnus Dr. Gonzalo Asis '14. Asis, a former PC tennis player, is currently BofA's vice president of equity derivatives research.

Omicron Delta Kappa Celebrates New Members

Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society, welcomed 1,869 new initiates from 78 universities during April 2023. Students initiated into the Society must be sophomores, juniors, seniors, or graduate/professional students in the top 35% of their class, demonstrate leadership experience in at least one of the five pillars, and embrace the ODK ideals. Fewer than five percent of students on a campus are invited to join each year.

PC senior completes capstone research on tree ordinances

Presbyterian College senior Anna West completed her political science capstone research on tree ordinances this spring to discover which cities are sustaining green space and why. After graduation, the Dacula, Ga., will begin her professional career as a lab scientist with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Environmental Protection in the Atlanta metro area.

PC charters new honor society for first-generation students; inducts inaugural cohort

Presbyterian College's Eta Delta Chapter of Alpha Alpha Alpha inducted its first 37 members Sunday at the chartering service for the new honor society for first-generation college students. Founded in 2018 at Moravian College in Bethlehem, Penn., Tri-Alpha honors high-achieving first-generation college students. PC's Eta Delta Chapter is the fifth in South Carolina and one of only five nationally affiliated with a Presbyterian Church-related college or university.

Mitchell Mercer named 'Journalist of the Year'

PC senior Mitchell Mercer of Fort Mill, S.C., was named Journalist of the Year for schools under 5,000 by the S.C. Press Association Collegiate Division at the spring meeting and awards ceremony at Clemson University. Mercer also took second place in column or editorial writing, first and second places for sports photographs, and third place for photo story in the division for smaller schools. In the open contest for all schools, Mercer claimed third place for video.
